A day off from pushing, checking the route for tomorrow
11AM – We drove down HWY 71, which turns into Ben White Blvd., into Austin. We checked the route to see what would be the best way to push into Austin tomorrow.
12 Noon – We stopped for lunch and then continued on to our sponsor Hotel, Baymont.
1PM – We unloaded the trailer for the next couple of nights and checked into the Baymont Hotel in Round Rock, TX.
2 to 8PM – We uploaded pictures, updated the log, and made other updates for the website. We had gotten behind over the last couple of days because of all the work that needed to be done on my book and with contacting media for the tour.
7 to 8PM – I watched the closing ceremonies of the 2004 Olympics in Athens, Greece. It’s always kind of a bitter-sweet thing to me to see the closing ceremonies. I know as an athlete, that most athletes are relieved when the pressures of the games are over. Some athletes however, may like another chance. The beautiful magnificence of how the ceremonies end is reminiscent of how they began.
The most important thing in the Olympic games is not winning, but taking part. The essential thing in life is not conquering, but fighting well. “Buron de Coubertin”, The Olympic Creed.
8 to 11PM – I did some more revisions to A Nation at War. Since I had just watched the ending of the Olympics, I thought it would be good to start off my book with a good quote:
“The life that conquers is the life that moves with a steady resolution and persistence toward a predetermined goal. Those who succeed are those who have thoroughly learned the immense importance of plan in life, and the tragic brevity of time.” –W.J. Davidson
The reason that I chose this quote is because one thing that I’ve noticed on the Big Push and Health and Fitness Tour of America is that so few people have really done any planning in regards to their health and fitness. This quote really talks about planning in life in general, but now that 2/3 of our society has become either out of shape, over weight, or obese, it will soon be a necessity for people to plan for their life long health and fitness needs and work more on prevention and health problems. If our society continues to move in the same direction it is currently, it won’t be much longer before our entire health care system as we know it could collapse. It is my hope that my tour, and book will have a positive impact on many people’s lives and serve as an important wake up call for them to start to make time for health and fitness activities and education.
