Meeting with Mayor Wynn of Austin was BIG SUCCESS! Today was declared "Kevin Saunders Day" in Austin, Texas

6:30AM – We watched the interview that was taped yesterday on KXAN NBC from the hotel room. Kate did a great job with the interview and all of my points from the tour came across clearly.

10AM – We loaded up the truck and got ready to drive to the Governor’s office near the State Capitol Building in Austin

11:30AM to 12:15PM – We had a meeting at the Governor’s office with Heidi McConnell, the Governor’s advisor on budget planning and policy. Heidi accepted a sculpture on behalf of the Governor Rick Perry that I presented from the Health and Fitness Tour of America. I told Heidi about the grassroots initiatives that we were working to start with state, city, and community leaders across America. I showed Heidi our facilitation guide and let her know I would send her copies via the email or on a disk via mail. Heidi was very interested in the information and assured me that she would pass the information on to the Governor. She informed me of the progress of the Governor’s Fitness Council that has worked to have the fast food removed from Texas schools by 2006 then have candy machines removes and then all frying machines by 2008. I congratulated Heidi on their success and also offered a plan for education for children when it comes to health and fitness so they would be able to know how to determine what foods are good for them. I mentioned how successful the DARE program had been in regards to helping kids learn about the negative affects of drugs and how we hoped help communities and states to do something similar with the Health and fitness Tour of America only in this case to help kids learn what adequate exercise and proper nutrition are. Also to provide information that would help all segments of the population from kids to adults so they would be able to figure that out for themselves what’s good, and what they want, once they have a good foundation of easily understood information on health and fitness.

12:30PM – We drove to White Lion Internet Service which was only a few blocks from the Governor’s office. White Lion is the company responsible for the creation of the KevinSaunders.com website. We had a chance to visit with Steve and Daphne while we waited for a file that was being sent to there office.

2:30PM – We returned to the Baymont for a short meal break.

2:45PM – Coach Snyder from K-State University called to commend me on what I am doing on the Big Push and on what I plan to do on the 50 state tour. I told him of my battle plan to get America Fit and motivated. I told him that as I was pushing across the country that there were days when the index was over 110 degrees that I thought of the Kansas State Football players and how hard those young men work and how much they sacrifice to enable Kansas State to remain one of the best teams in the country. I also

3:30 to 4:15PM – Meeting with Mayor Wynn was a BIG SUCCESS! We Met with Mayor Wynn of Austin at the Municipal Building on 8th St. Mayor Wynn told me about all of the great health and fitness initiatives that he had already helped create in Austin. I showed him our facilitation guide and told him that it might help him create some new ideas to help him and his Austin in Motion program designed to help the city of Austin to reach their goal of being the fittest city in America by 2006. Mayor Wynn was very enthusiastic, and truly has a winning spirit about health and fitness and about improving his city. He has a great program in place called http://www.austininmotion.com/ that has virtually the whole city involved in making Austin, TX one of the fittest cities to live in America. I applauded Mayor Wynn’s goal enthusiasm and energy and goal to have Austin, TX become the fittest city in America in 2006!

5PM – We drove by the KXAN studio to pick up a Beta tape that we had left with them to dub a copy of the interview they had done with me yesterday morning.

6 to 10PM – We worked on sending emails, making contacts, updating the log, and emailing photos.

10:30PM – We went to bed..
